Home Learning

We believe that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Our Home Learning is designed to support pupils, parents, and carers with engaging, meaningful activities that reinforce and extend classroom learning. The three key areas are reading, spelling and maths.

Explore the resources below to find everything you need to make home learning a positive and productive experience.

Please see your child’s year group page for more detailed information regarding hand-in days.

Reading

Your child will be given a Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) - a personalised reading range that helps guide them toward books that offer the right level of challenge and support. They can choose books from the school library within this range, but are also welcome to read any book they enjoy at home. We do encourage regular reading within their ZPD, as these books are carefully matched to stretch their skills while keeping reading enjoyable and achievable.

Spelling

Each week, children focus on a specific spelling rule or pattern. In Year 3 and 4, they learn the words that are given to them. In Year 5 and 6, they are given a set of ‘power words’ to learn, along with ‘mystery words’ that follow the same rule in order to help deepen their understanding. To check progress, pupils complete a weekly dictation in school. At home, they can choose how to practise their words using a fun and varied activity grid, encouraging independence and creativity in their learning.

Maths

Mathletics is an online platform that helps children build confidence and fluency in maths through interactive activities, games, and challenges. Designed to support the curriculum, it allows pupils to practise key skills at their own pace, both in school and at home.

We also use Times Table Rockstars to help pupils develop quick and confident recall of their times tables, especially from Year 4 onwards. Just 5 to 10 minutes a day can make a big difference in boosting fluency and accuracy. The platform is fun, competitive, and tailored to each child’s level, making times tables practice both effective and enjoyable.
