Music
Music at The Grove Junior School is a vibrant and inclusive part of the curriculum, designed to foster a lifelong appreciation and passion for music. The programme aligns with the National Curriculum and builds on Key Stage 1 foundations from the Infants, ensuring continuity and progression. We are lucky enough to have a dedicated music room in order to promote the importance of the subject, complete with a class set of ukuleles, 15 keyboards, boomwhackers and many more percussion instruments.
The school aims for every pupil to understand and appreciate how music enriches their thinking, emotions, culture, and community engagement. Music lessons are inclusive, practical, and accessible to all pupils, regardless of background or ability.

Weekly music lessons and whole-school singing assemblies are central to the curriculum. Pupils engage in performing, composing, and listening to music from various cultures and historical periods. A structured progression of skills is maintained through collaboration with the infant school.
Pupils develop confidence, self-esteem, and musical skills such as composition, performance, and notation. By the end of Key Stage 2, most pupils meet or exceed expected standards, with a deep appreciation for music’s role in history and society.
Each year group follows a structured plan involving instruments like recorders, ukuleles, keyboards, and glockenspiels, with themed projects and performances such as class assemblies and productions.
