History
At The Grove Junior School, pupils will gain a knowledge of the history of the United Kingdom and the wider world. This will include the migration of various nations which have shaped Britain to what it is today and the society, culture and spiritual beliefs of ancient civilisations.
History at The Grove Junior School
History at the Grove will help pupils understand their own identity, the complexity of other people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as the challenges of their time.
To enrich learning, pupils will have first-hand experiences like trips to museums or significant historical locations, planned WOW days delivered by teachers and visiting experts of a History topic. Pupils will use these experiences to develop a curiosity for their topic of History, progress their understanding of history and also enhance their ability to analyse various people’s accounts of a historical event including women, people of colour, people with a disability and those who identify as LGBT.

Geography
At The Grove Junior School, our Geography curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and inspire a lifelong fascination with the world. Children learn through exploring our local area, investigating the UK and discovering the wider world. We encourage them to ask meaningful questions about places, how they change, and the impact of these changes at both a local and global scale.
Geography at The Grove Junior School
Our approach builds progressively on knowledge and skills, ensuring that each year group deepens their understanding of Geography. Lessons are taught in engaging blocks, with strong cross-curricular links to subjects such as history and science. As a result, children at the Grove develop confidence, use subject-specific vocabulary, and think critically like geographers.
Our children enjoy Geography: they confidently use accurate vocabulary, and can apply their learning in meaningful ways. They develop enquiry skills, learn to analyse and interpret geographical information, and make connections across subjects. Most importantly, children leave The Grove with a strong understanding of the world around them and their place within it.
