Computing

At The Grove Junior School, our Computing curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the digital skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly technological world. We follow a structured and progressive programme from Year 3 to Year 6, using high-quality resources such as Teach Computing and Purple Mash.

Each year, pupils explore key areas of computing including:

  • Online Safety – taught explicitly every autumn to ensure children understand how to stay safe and responsible online.
  • Computer Systems and Networks – helping pupils understand how digital systems work and how they connect.
  • Programming – developing coding skills through engaging projects such as creating games, animations, and quizzes.
  • Data and Information – teaching pupils how to collect, organise, and interpret data using tools like branching databases and spreadsheets.
  • Creating Media – encouraging creativity through digital publishing, photo editing, video production, and 3D modelling.

Our curriculum builds year-on-year, ensuring pupils develop confidence and competence in using technology. From logging in and sequencing sounds in Year 3 to programming with variables and sensing movement in Year 6, children are supported to become safe, skilled, and creative digital citizens.
