School Choir

Giuseppe Loporchio

Music Concert!gallery

A big thank you to all of the children who took part in the Spring Music Concert this week. Children from year 3 to year 6 joined together to provide a variety of music.

The choir opened the concert by singing one of the songs composed especially for the 20th anniversary of Young Voices.

Instrumental music followed with the debut performance of Mrs Myers year 3 beginner recorder group who performed their music accurately and with great confidence. The intermediate recorder group, run by Mrs Rigarlsford, also played. This group performed with real control and sensitivity.

The orchestra gave a polished performance of some of their favourite pieces which included some complicated rhythmic and melodic sections. Well done to all of them.

In addition to the group performances, a large number of children from year 5 performed individually on a range of instruments. All of the performers played to a very high standard, showing that they have worked very hard this term. They should be very proud of their achievements.

It was a treat to welcome back the staff choir who gave a sparkling performance of  a song in the style of Glenn Miller. Both parents and children loved the song and the dance moves!

The concert ended with the choir performing 'Sing' by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The children sang beautifully and with great enthusiasm.

Thank you to everyone who took part, you gave great pleasure to many people.

The O2 Arena

The children in years 4, 5 and 6 have sung at the O2 Arena in London.

We were lucky enough to have been  part of the Young Voices 2016 choir, performing in the biggest musical concert in Europe!

Here are two reviews of the spectacular event!

O2 report by Grace B

We left to go on a coach at 10.30. There were 2 of them! I was on Mrs Harrison’s coach with Emma! On the coach, we sat on the back seat. We played UNO.

When we got off the coach, Mrs Harrison took a picture of the whole choir in front of the O2. We queued up and gave in our donations. Next we went up the escalator to the first floor; we found our seats and finally ate our lunch!

After lunch we waited for the rehearsal to begin. It was very loud when we finally started! The coir went through all the songs in order. Various different people/ groups came in such as Beat Boxers, Urban Striders and Laura Wright (famous opera singer who has sung at Twickenham).

In the break before the concert, we had dinner and time to chat. When the audience were allowed in, all the children were desperately searching for their parents but we couldn’t spot them!

The lights went out and the show started at 7pm! It was great! There was barely any time to sit down as we were constantly singing and dancing. The whole concert was just amazing.

At the end we had to wait a long time before we could go. Then Mrs Bull asked us all to hold onto a very long blue rope so that we were altogether – it was a sophisticated method and worked well!

On the journey home, nobody seemed to be tires because we were all chatting. We all had a fantastic day.

O2 Young Voices Tuesday 26th January 2016 report by Luca V

The Year 4, 5 and 6 choir went to the O2 Arena to sing at the amazing Young Voices Concert. We left around 10.30 to get there. It took around an hour and a half.

At 1.00pm, we got into our seats and then had lunch before the fun rehearsal started! The rehearsal was brilliant! We did the moves to utter Madness, Gospel Train, Video Killed the Radio Star and Uptown Funk!

Next we had tea break until 6.00pm. The parents stared to pour into the Arena at 6.15pm. The concert featured the Urban Striders, Laura Wright, the Teacher’s Choir and the kids amazing choir. The concert was brilliant!

I hope that The Grove Junior School choir had the best time of their lives at the 20th Anniversary of Young Voices. I know I did!
